Widely seen as a recognisable standard of excellence and innovation in the energy sector, the award celebrates exceptional industry performers who have contributed to the continued growth and success of energy projects throughout Africa.

“We are honoured to accept this award, which coincides with First Solar establishing a new module conversion efficiency milestone and world record confirmed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. At First Solar, we are aware of Africa’s need for effective energy solutions and have focused our efforts on helping the region tap into its most abundant energy resource, the sun,” said Laura Luckhurst, First Solar’s business development manager for sub-Saharan Africa, who was on hand to receive the award.

Being a truly vertically integrated solar provider, First Solar improves every aspect of the solar value chain, enabling the company to offer tailored power plant solutions that deliver an economically attractive alternative to fossil-fuel electricity generation. Its world-record holding PV thin-film technology forms the foundation of its large-scale power plants.

“By providing affordable PV technology-based, large-scale solar power solutions, we aim to contribute to meeting the region’s growing needs, while also building a sustainable future for renewable energy in the region,” Luckhurst added.

First Solar’s PV energy solutions include large-scale generation, industrial power, and fuel displacement solutions to address contemporary energy needs. In addition to meeting renewable energy targets and reducing carbon emissions, First Solar provides PV energy solutions that promote energy security, reduce the risk of fuel price volatility, displace fossil-fuels, and save energy resources.  In addition, First Solar’s solutions can provide energy to remote areas without access to modern electricity.
