With the growing interest in sustainable, low-carbon energy and low-price fuels, Natural Gas is increasingly becoming the energy source of choice. Natural Gas is a fossil fuel that exists in a gaseous state and is composed mainly of methane (CH4) a small percentage of other hydrocarbons (e.g. ethane). The use of natural gas is becoming more and more popular as it can be used with commercial, industrial and residential applications. It is becoming widespread because of its property of instant heating and thus commercially preferred, in hotels, restaurants, motels, manufacturing units, commercial office buildings, hospitals, schools, industry, mining, and as an alternative fuel for vehicles.

Through Virtual Gas Network a division of CNG Holdings, access to Natural Gas has been made easier. VIRTUAL GAS NETWORK has established the infrastructure to supply gas anywhere within a 300 km radius of Johannesburg. At present, VIRTUAL GAS NETWORK is supplying Compressed Natural Gas to various converted canneries, hospitals, manufacturing and assembly plants across a range of industries, as well as fleets of warehouse forklifts in various storage applications.

Bringing Natural Gas to you

Over and above the conversions, VIRTUAL GAS NETWORK delivers natural gas-contained in tube trailers to the desired site through a road-based transport network that is fully operated to suit the energy necessities of each user. This innovative virtual gas pipeline provides an easy but reliable solution to energy requirements. 24-Hour digital monitoring by VIRTUAL GAS NETWORK’s highly trained engineers means that trailers are replaced before the client is even aware that the supply is running low. This industry leading service means production never has to stop.

“Without the need to construct servitudes and other civil works amongst municipal utility spaces, cumbersome legislative procedures are avoided,” Stephen Rothman, Chief Executive Officer, CNG Holdings

Natural gas is used in an amazing number of ways. It can be used in commercial buildings in a similar way to its use in residential spaces. Amongst many other uses, it can be used for space heating, water heating, and air conditioning. However, it is widely used in a variety of manufacturing processes, boilers, furnaces, dehumidifiers, heaters and coolers, ovens, kilns and turbines, these can all be fired more efficiently with natural gas, through a consistent, high energy content of +/- 39.22 MJ (10.89 kWh) per m3 that is significantly more cost-effective than crude oil based fuels. Many manufacturing processes require heat to melt, dry, bake, or glaze a product. Natural gas can be used as a heat source in making steel, glass, cement, bricks, ceramics, tile, food products and many other commodities.

While lowering operational costs, the cleaner combustion of Natural Gas improves equipment and plant performance by minimising residual carbon hence reducing the need for constant maintenance. The reduced emissions of natural gas will become increasingly more critical as companies look to avoid carbon tax penalties. Productivity should never be compromised, CNG Holdings, through VIRTUAL GAS NETWORK ensures a guaranteed energy supply that is effective and economic.
